7th Back-to-School giveaway in District B

 

Students of all ages are invited to take advantage of free immunizations, health screenings, giveaways and live entertainment 

HOUSTON, TX – On Saturday, August 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Vice Mayor Pro-Tem Jerry Davis, along with Mayor Sylvester Turner, the Black McDonald’s Owner/Operators Association of Greater Houston (BMOA), Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. Xi Alpha Omega Chapter, W.A.I.I.T, Harris Health, 20.10 Media, 93.7 The Beat, DJ Mr. Rogers, ASWAP and Bread of Life, will host a Backpack Giveaway for Houston area students at Tidwell Park, 9720 Spaulding St, Houston, TX 77016.

Students of all ages are invited to attend this free event with their families to gear up for the upcoming school year with immunizations, boy’s haircuts, health screenings, dental hygiene kits, and furniture, clothing, shoes, school supplies and backpack giveaways. Families attending the event will also enjoy food and beverages provided by local area McDonald’s owner/operators, family-friendly games, face painting, a concert from 20.10 Media and an appearance by DJ Mr. Rogers.

“Education is incredibly important for the young people in our community,” said Jerry Davis, Vice Mayor Pro-Tem and Council Member of District B. “We’re excited to help families and students prepare for the upcoming school year and have teamed up with sponsors and supporters to give out free school supplies and food while everyone enjoys music and games.” 

“The black McDonald’s owner/operators of Greater Houston are proud to partner once again with Mayor Pre Tem Davis to support this great event,” said BMOA President Dave Moss. “As local business people, we are deeply invested in our communities and want to make sure these children to have every opportunity to succeed in pursing their education.”

City of Houston Announces the 2018 Liftoff Houston: Annual Business Plan Competition

 

HOUSTON – The City of Houston and Capital One Bank are announcing the sixth year launch of the Liftoff Houston Start-Up Business Plan Competition; a program that is launching new businesses today, for a better Houston tomorrow!

Mayor Sylvester Turner formally announced the 2018 competition on Wednesday, June 6,  2018 pre-City Council Meeting at 9AM at City Hall. Contestants can apply at www.liftoffhouston.org starting Wednesday, June 6 till Monday, June 16 at 2PM CST.

 

Announcing 2018 Liftoff Houston Start-Up Business Plan Competition with Mayor Sylvester Turner, Dr. Rhea Brown Lawson, Carlecia Wright, and Marc Boucree

 

Liftoff Houston is a competition that engages and empowers Houstonians seeking to start a new business in Houston by providing them with access to essential information, resources and the support necessary to develop a sound business plan toward realizing their goal. This annual competition is sponsored by Capital One Bank in partnership with the Houston Public Library (HPL) and the Office of Business Opportunity (OBO).

Capital One Bank is providing cash prizes totaling $30,000 to the top three winning business plan submissions in the categories of Product, Service, and Innovation.  Prizes of $10,000 will be awarded for each category.

To be eligible, applicants must have a for-profit business that is less than a year old, has earned less than $10,000 in revenue, and is operated by owners who live within the Houston city limits. The top three finalists will receive much-needed capital to invest in their business.

Entering the 2018 Liftoff Houston Start-Up Business Plan Competition is easy and free. Application submissions open Wednesday, June 6, 2018. All interested parties are required to complete and submit the application no later than 2 PM, Monday, July 16, 2018. The competition is five months long and is divided into four stages that include: orientation, workshops, mentoring, and business pitching. The workshops will be offered at various Houston Public Library locations and local entities citywide.
